Your Church must have clear procedures for handling complaints and concerns. Any complaints or concerns against a Staff member, Volunteer and other Worker where there has been a breach of the Safe Spaces Code of Conduct or Safeguarding Policy and its procedures will be managed in line with the Child Safe Organisation Act 2024 and any other mandatory reporting requirements.
Any breaches involving Pastoral Leaders must also be managed in accordance with the relevant Queensland Baptists processes. Where the matter constitutes Reportable Conduct, it must also be reported to the Queensland Family and Child Commission (QFCC).
Your Church must ensure that all complaints or concerns raised under this Procedure are managed in ways that are child-focused, trauma-informed, and culturally safe, with the safety and wellbeing of each child at the centre of every response. Children, their families and your whole Church community must be informed about how to raise concerns including those about Staff, Volunteers and other Workers safely and confidently.
This Implementation Kit provides a procedure that can be used by churches. Churches are welcome to adapt this as required to suit local needs and adopt it as their own procedure. This Procedure aligns with Child Safe Standard 6 – Complaints Management under the Child Safe Organisations Act 2024 and supports compliance with Queensland’s Reportable Conduct Scheme (RCS).
