Motor Vehicles

Most of QB Churches are unincorporated organisations, which means that they will not be able to own a motor vehicle in Queensland in their own name.

Queensland Baptists are able to allow affiliated churches to own motor vehicles under their Customer Reference Number (CRN) to enable churches to own motor vehicles, either for pastors use or a vehicle to assist with ministry.

We are frequently asked questions about the best way for a pastor or church to purchase a motor vehicle. Typically there are two types of purchases:

  1. A car for the pastor to use
  2. A bus or people mover for the church to assist various ministries.

Either vehicle can be purchased in a number of different ways, with the main two ways being privately owned or owned under Queensland Baptists’ CRN.

In order to purchase or sell a vehicle which is owned under Queensland Baptists’ CRN, the church will need to complete paperwork to facilitate this process, which is outlined below in a number of fact sheets.

Pastor’s Vehicles

If a motor vehicle is owned by the church and is available for the current pastor to be used during his service with the church, then it would be appropriate for this vehicle to be owned under Queensland Baptists’ CRN.

In this instance, when the pastor finishes with a church, the vehicle is retained by the church for their next pastor.

However, if at the end of the pastor’s service they keep the vehicle as their own property, then it needs to be purchased and registered in the pastor’s name rather than under QB’s CRN.
