Pastoral Endings and Transitions Resources

Pastoral Endings

When a Pastor resigns or has given notice of a resignation, often the immediate thoughts of the congregation and the leadership are consumed with how they will find a new pastor. This is natural and important and is the subject of our QB Guide to Pastoral Transitions. However, there is another important consideration that leadership and indeed the exiting pastor should make and that is concerning ensuring a healthy conclusion.

A Guide has been prepared to assist pastors and churches to this end. It contains resources such as:

  • Guidelines to assist with making conclusions healthy
  • Checklists for ensuring good endings
  • Advice about how to conduct exit productive interviews
  • Resources to assist the church leadership and the pastor reflect on the previous ministry

This guide is available by clicking:

  • A Guide to Pastoral Endings

Pastoral endings will normally involve changes to a Pastor’s contact and ministry details and so we would also request that the pastor complete this online form when details become known.

Churches in Transition

A second guide has been developed to help church leadership teams and pastoral search teams to develop a healthy process for the transition period between pastors. It considers various options that a church may consider in this transition period as well as providing a number of resources for use at various stages of a search process.

This guide is available by clicking

Another resource that have been developed and is helpful for churches in these transitions is the Church Culture Instrument which aims to identify the culture of the church and the prospective pastor to see where there are things shared in common and where there are different perspectives. It can be accessed below:

  • Introduction to the Church Culture Instrument
  • Church Culture Instrument – Leaders – PDF
  • Church Culture Instrument – Pastors – PDF

Please note: The Interactive PDF version may not work with all PDF readers.  QB recommends an Adobe pdf reader for all its PDF Fillable Forms.

The Director of Pastoral Services is able to provide support, guidance and resources for churches in transition and leadership teams or search teams are encouraged to make contact as soon as possible.
